It wasn’t often that I had a role reversal with any of my friends. I was the listener, the compatriot, the philosopher. I was never the rock, the steady place, the fixer. I was the one who usually needed to be fixed. And, if any of my friends needed to be fixed, well they had people other than me to go to. Some of my friends could be counted on to come to me once their problem was fixed, but still wanted someone to commiserate with. I was good at commiserating.
